Music video inspirations - Miss Georgiou

S Club 7 -Reach

I gained inspiration from this music video because it is conventional to the pop genre, it uses numerous amounts of bright colours through mise-en-scene. The costumes used were very colourful which makes the artists stand out and portrays energy and vitality, this is used to convey the pop genre to the audience. There is also a dnce routine throughout the song and a repetitive one made especially for the chorus, this is used to create audience participation, if the audience become familular with the choreography they will be more likely to listen to the song over and over again and there is a more likely chance that the song will have more publicity. The artists are represented as very energetic and jubilant, this to influence the audiences mood by making them happy aswell. This is a conventional strategy used within the pop genre and videos as it is a very effective method.

Sam Smith - Not The Only One

I gained alot of inpiration from this video as it was very conventional to its genre of soul, there was a lot of close ups used on the characters used and this was to emphasise the emotions they were feeling through their facial expressions. The woman was very upset and distressed and this was because her husband is cheating on her, this also means the video has a relationship between the lyrics and visuals. This helps programme the song into viewers minds as they have something to relate it to, the fact that the woman is very upset also conveys to the genre of soul. Soul songs are most commonly very upsetting as they are written about heartbreak through past experiences of the artists. The costume within the video is very old fashioned and vintage, this is a very conventional aspect of the soul genre, as it tends to use an antique design to attract the target audience which is most commonly younger adults from about 16-50.

Sub Focus - Out The Blue

The setting of this video is under water, which is a very strange and unusual place to film a music video. However this is what makes it conventional to the drum and bass genre, because the music is meant to take you into your own world therefore a uncommon setting will help influence you into feeling the emotions the artist intends you to. Most of the time in drum and bass videos the music video tends to be abstract and have not much too do with the lyrics of the song, rather more appealing to a specific type of audience, which is what it does when it presents coloured gas images across the screen. A lot of the time in drum and bass music vidoes the artist does not appear in the video itself or they make make a camio appearence in the video this is because they are not so well recognised, as they focus more on their music than there publicity or self image. There also tends to be fast editing within drum and bass videos however within this video the visuals do not match the music in the conventional way, instead the transitions are mostly in slow motion which is used to create a more hallucinating effect.

Ella Eyre - Deeper

Within Ella Eyre's music video the editing used is how I image to have our music video. Between transitions, from narrative to performance of the artist singing there is a swift and slow blend, this is used to avoid confusion for the audience and allow them to be aware of when the theme is changing from telling the story and the purpose of the music. When the narration is being shown the editing used is at a constant and smooth pace between each character or different shot, whereas when the performance is being shown many of the same shots are repeated as its main focus is showing the artist singing. This would be very conventional to use in our music video because we are using the same technique with the narrative and performance themes and it has been proven effective in existing music video for example this one.

Chloe Howl - Rumour

The editing used within 'Rumour' varies and I have gained inspiration from the way each transition moves in time with the beat of the bass. With every transition change the focus of the scene changes, for example it shows the artist, then the chess board then a characters. This creates a strong relationship between the music and the visuals, which I believe is a very effective strategy to use in order to attract attention of the audience and look very professional. It allows viewers to become connected and familiarised with the pace of the music, this is also a very versatile effect to use as it can be applied within any genre of song, however the pace of the transitions is the only thing that changes. The editing used to switch themes is also very similar as to how I aim mine to be, between narration and performance there is clear and bold transitions so that the audience are clear when it ends and begins.
