Planning artist image - Miss Georgiou

Having an artist representation is important within a music video because it  allows the audience to recognise the genre of the song. The costume, hair and makeup used has to represent the style of the artist, so that they can create a reputation that they want for themselves, it also allows the target audience to relate to the artist as they are most likely to have a similar style.

The costume we will be using in our music video on our artist will be very quirky and vintage, as she has a very distinctive look which represents a old fashioned genre. For one outfit our artist will be wearing very casual clothing including a blouse and trousers, however we will dress her in a floppy hat and bold necklace. This is to help keep her very relatable however also to represent her as vintage as she can transform a simple outfit into something quirky and modern. This is conventional to the soul genre, as it has a very elegant yet quirky style, within many music videos I analysed I found that the female often wear hats that are large and stand out on the artists. This image helps shows how the artist likes to be deviate from the social norm however still conform to the stereotypical soul genre conventions as this image is very popular within the soul genre.

The makeup that we will use on our music artist will involve a subtle base, so that our artist is quite pale. This is because back in olden times this was the popular choice of makeup, therefore it symbolises her representation of a more vintage and sophisticated time period. She will also have eye liner that will flick up from the sides of her eyes, as well as eye shadow and a thick layer of mascara. The heavy use of eye makeup encourages the audience to concentrate on the artists eyes allowing them to relate and understand the facial expressions the artist is making, which means they can connect to her. A bright coloured lipstick will also be used so that her lips stand out to the audience and grab their attention, this will be used so that they can focus on not only her image but what he singing as well so that she is represented to have passion for her music as well as how she is perceived. This is conventional to the soul genre because within many existing music videos this makeup effect is used and successfully represents the artists in the way we want ours to be perceived as for example; Amy Winehouse and Duffy.

When our artist is not wearing a hat, she will have her hair backcombed and curled to show how women from past decades have worn their hair, this will show the elegance yet quirkiness our artist represents. We will make sure the curls are not too tight or loose because the curls are meant to represent the perfectionist persona of our artist as the old fashioned style is quite traditional and aims to impress others. The backcombing will be representative to the quirkiness of our artist as it is very wild and bold, it creates volume and adds to the personality of our artists image. This is very conventional to the soul genre as it is a very popular choice of style for example; Adele and Amy Winehouse.

  1. This post demonstrates basic planning techniques and this is because you have included an overall of how you will represent your artist, instead of considering the various scenes of your production.

Therefore, you need to refer back to your storyboards to ensure that you have included points on all your scenes to show further planning of how your artist will be represented throughout and not just an overall.
